Let’s just pretend this reveal is some kind of red carpet event. I know… better yet, let’s pretend that this is Fixer Upper and I’m about to roll back the old blog photo to reveal the beautiful new and improved Doodles and Stitches. Or let’s just sit here in our yoga pants and talk (type, read) about the new blog design.
The WordPress Switch
So, here’s the scoop! I switched over to WordPress about 6 months ago. It was a difficult decision and an even more difficult process. I cannot tell you the number of times I have thought “I am such an idiot for leaving Blogger” because let’s all admit, change is ALWAYS hard. There was a new dashboard to learn and new words like “widget” and “plugin” that I’d never used before. I lost my RSS feed completely and in turn, lost my entire email subscription list and Bloglovin’ following. I could go on and on! At this point, you may be asking why I stayed with WordPress! Truthfully, I’m asking myself that same question, as I type this. In all honesty though, I have become very happy and satisfied with WordPress. It’s more than just actually OWNING my OWN CONTENT, it’s also the tools and equipment that they have given me to grow and become better at what I do. There are many more creative options than I ever knew existed. Admittedly, I learn something new every other day and I’m excited to unlock even more potential, via this new platform, in the future.
Template and Design
So, I have gone back and forth since October trying to decide on a new design for my almost 4 year old blog. I felt like I needed something that was easier to navigate, for sure! I wanted my posts to be cropped on my home page, so I display, at a glance, a variety of things for my readers. I wanted you to easily find what peaked your interest in my site, to begin with. I still have some more work to do, but at this point, I am basically finished and couldn’t be happier with the outcome. I absolutely loved the template and the helpful tutorial that went along with it so I wanted to share that information with you. I bought the template from GeorgiaLou Studios via Creative Market and the actual template name is “Felicity”.
It was so easy to install and there were many additional features like widgets for social media, customizable template changes and color options that I was super excited about. I learned about all of these through their easy q&a section and tutorial on the actual template.
I’m asking everyone to re-subscribe to the email so that you’ll be updated on all posts and “goings on” at Doodles and Stitches. Like I mentioned earlier, my subscription list is now 1 and pathetically, that is me. I will try to recover my previous subscriber list and contact everyone but at this point, I don’t have any list. So, just go over to that right side bar and where it says “Subscribe to blog via email” – enter your email. Easy peasy!
I am excited to share some new sections on Doodles and Stitches…
My favorite is… PUPS
SOCIAL MEDIA FEEDS
There are also new sections about what I’m loving on OTHER BLOGS and TRENDING ITEMS!
It’s going to be a great year with lots of new projects and tutorials. Thank you for making it all possible.
